And on Thursday, Posner, who has not seen the photo, explained to Access Hollywood that it was the detail of Jackson’s scar, described independently by the two TV execs, which made the investigative journalist believe the picture is authentic.

“The reason this picture is believed to be authentic is Michael Jackson had a scar on his left cheek that very few people knew about. He hid that scar whenever he went out in public with makeup,” Posner told Access. “When stripped of makeup, that scar is visible. In this picture, there is a scar on the left cheek where it is supposed to be. That’s one of the reasons I don’t believe it is a fake autopsy photo.”

Posner claims he contacted the restaurant owner about the photo and the person allegedly replied with the text message, “Thnk u, but at this time I’m not interested.” When contacted by Access Hollywood, Los Angeles Chief Coroner Ed Winter said in his opinion, there cannot be any photos “floating around” from the official autopsy report.

The photos are under “lock and key,” separate from the autopsy report, he told Access on Wednesday.

Winter added that he had seen two unrelated photos of Jackson’s body, one of the pop star lying down “somewhere” and another of him supposedly in a casket. His opinion is that both images are computer-generated.

But Posner told Access it is not clear whether the reported photo is official, or was snapped under different circumstances.

“It’s not clear as to whether it’s an official photo taken by the Coroner or whether it’s what I call a ‘Trophy Photo,’ taken by somebody who had access to the autopsy and took it and put it on their phone,” he said.

Posner said the restaurant owner, who he cannot name for legal reasons, did not appear to want to sell the photo. But the writer believes “he can’t be the only person” out there with the picture. And if someone does decide to sell, Posner said the selling price would likely be high.

“Photo experts and paparazzi believe that photo is worth over $1 million if sold,” he said. “When you’re talking about this kind of money – a million dollars plus – it’s very tempting for someone to leak out a photo and eventually sell it, despite the legal ramifications,” he later added. “Unfortunately, we may see one of these in print.”
